With the increasing rate at which disasters seem to be striking today, I can’t help but wonder if it’s all over. Sometimes having too wide a perspective can be paralyzing. On the other hand, it sure makes our current political situation here in the U.S. seem far less dire and, somehow, more palatable. So here’s a log of some of the news alerts I’ve received thus far today (in the midst of some torrential rainstorms, which seems fitting):
- 10:23 AM: Pakistani quake toll may be in thousands-spokesman
- 10:33 AM: Romania reports new bird flu cases in Danube delta
- 1:15 PM: About 400 Pakistani school children dead in quake
- 1:36 PM: 2,000 turkeys dead from avian flu in Turkey-TV
- 3:00 PM: Huge mudslide kills 1,400 in Guatemalan village
